Dr. Ernest Everett Just, one of the four Founders of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, was born right here in Charleston in 1883. As his hometown chapter, Mu Alpha proudly carries forward his legacy of scholarship, service, and excellence.

Our Foundation
A Legacy Born on King Street
For more than 87 years, Mu Alpha’s presence in Charleston has been generational, not seasonal.
In the early 1930s, under the leadership of Brother Dr. J. I. Hoffman, a group of Omega men met in the King Street office of Brother E. J. Cling, D.D.S., and resolved to build a graduate chapter in Charleston. Their enthusiasm carried the chapter through its early years, and on August 6, 1938, the Fraternity granted the charter that made Mu Alpha official.
Today, the Port City Ques carry that vision forward through mentoring, scholarships, civic engagement, and service across Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
